Dean Suhr and John Ley ask Washington House Transportation Committee to reject Tolling on Interstate Bridge

The Washington House Transportation Committee met Thursday, April 12, holding a hearing on SB 5765. The bill would authorize WSDOT and the Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC) to begin the process of implementing tolling on the Interstate Bridge.

Two citizens offered public testimony. Dean Suhr represents the Vote Before Tolls effort in Oregon. IP-4 is collecting signatures from Oregon citizens. If successful, it would require a vote before tolls could be placed on any Oregon highway or freeway. To learn more, go to the No Tolls Army website here.

Here is Dean’s testimony, followed by John Ley sharing the many flaws of the Interstate Bridge project and tolling in general.

Members of the committee included Representatives Jim Walsh, Ed Orcutt, Sharon Wylie, and Committee Chair Jake Fey.

Instead of tolling, how about charging electric cars road tax. Also bicycles need to be charged road tax for all the bike lanes and new development that is being done. Also all bikes need to have insurance and licenses. That would generate a lot of revenue for the states.

I can go above and beyond to find ways to tax bicycles. Less people are riding bikes now and we know bike riders are the rich ones, so now they will have to pay their bigger share. I know let’s tax the bike people who buy bikes an even bigger bicycle excise tax. And let cyclists pay for some of the smog costs for DEQ since they have to eat more the more they pedal. And let’s make sure they wear a special state required safety vest and helmets that also need to be registered with the state. Then let’s give them all tickets if they don’t comply with all the above.
